As a therapist, the number one issue I see that my clients struggle with, outside of diagnosable disorders, is negative thinking. The way we think affects how we feel, and how we feel affects how we act. So, if we are thinking negatively about an event in our life it will cause us to feel and act negatively. It is hard to change how we feel, however, we can control how we think. So, if we choose to focus on more positive thoughts we can actually make ourselves feel and act more positive.
First – begin to notice the negative thoughts you are having. Half of the battle is creating awareness of the negative thinking.
Second – begin to challenge those negative thoughts by asking yourself if those thoughts are negative/unhelpful/etc.
Third – start replacing the negative thoughts with more positive ones.
